I’ve been accused of many things in my life, some of them true, but I have never been accused of being, or mistaken for, a communist. I’ll give him a pass on his first sentence as he might have been referring to Miller.

The conservative blogosphere is in a tizzy over Dennis Miller’s gripping takedown of Senate leader Harry Reid. You can listen to him yourself, but you’re better off not to. No, really, it’s that bad. Here is a man who at one time could be considered funny but who now has to limit himself to a two minute skit on a half-rate conservative attempt at The Daily Show.

It’s funny but I used to think he was humorous. Back in the mid 90’s he was all about libertarian ideals and telling it like it is. Some time since then he’s turned into just another conservative shill specialized in bad jokes and stilted, needlessly overcomplicated rants.

Dustin, the author of this screed, seems to have a memory problem. I’ve been watching Dennis Miller do stand up for years, and he simply has not changed his style. His comedy has always been about obscure references to literature, history and pop culture being combined with long metaphoric statements. Actually, the only thing which has changed is that Miller supports the War on Terror, which is of course why Dustin and his fellow leftists now think he’s stupid. It’s Liberalism 101: As long as you believe the same as the rest of us liberals, you’re a good guy. Once you jump the fence on anything you are the devil incarnate.

It figures that the smartest statement came from someone who doesn’t even know who we’re talking about.

The 9/11 terrorist attack on America which left almost 3,000 people dead was an “inside job”, according to a group of leading academics.

Around 75 top professors and leading scientists believe the attacks were puppeteered by war mongers in the White House to justify the invasion and the occupation of oil-rich Arab countries.

The claims have caused outrage and anger in the US which marks the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Monday.

But leading scientists say the facts of their investigations cannot be ignored and say they have evidence that points to one of the biggest conspiracies ever perpetrated.

Now, if you’re like me, the first question you asked was, “Who are these ‘leading scientists’?” As it turns out, I’ve never heard of any of them, and you probably haven’t either. Seems that the author of this article, someone named Jaya Narain, uses the term to lend credibility to what these morons are saying.

Professor Steven Jones, who lectures in physics at the Brigham Young University in Utah, says the official version of events is the biggest and most evil cover up in history.

He has joined the 9/11 Scholars for Truth whose membership includes up to 75 leading scientists and experts from universities across the US.

Prof Jones said: “We don’t believe that 19 hijackers and a few others in a cave in Afghanistan pulled this off acting alone.

“We challenge this official conspiracy theory and, by God, we’re going to get to the bottom of this.”

In essays and journals, the scientists are giving credence to many of the conspiracy theories that have circulated on the internet in the past five years.

They believe a group of US neo-conservatives called the Project for a New American Century, set on US world dominance, orchestrated the 9/11 attacks as an excuse to hit Iraq, Afghanistan and later Iran.

One trip to the web site maintained by these left-wing nut jobs will tell you all you need to know about their “credibility” on this matter. I mean, come on, this whole “neo-conservative group bent on world dominance” bit is a little long in the tooth, isn’t it? Ever since the Republicans took control of Congress in 1994 the liberals in this country have worked overtime spreading rumors about “evil neo-conservatives bent on world dominance” and how they were doing things to purposely start a middle-eastern war so we could steal all of the oil. It was crap then, and it is crap now.

Professor Jones said it was impossible for the twin towers to have collapsed in the way they did from the collision of two aeroplanes.

He maintains jet fuel does not burn at temperatures high enough to melt steel beams and claims horizontal puffs of smoke seen during the collapse of the towers are indicative of controlled explosions used to bring down the towers.

The group also maintains World Trade Centre 7 – a neighbouring building which caught fire and collapsed later in the day – was only partially damaged but had to be destroyed because it housed a clandestine CIA station.

First it was “evil neo-cons,” now it’s the CIA.

I’m no professor, but even I know that jet fuel was not the only thing burning after the two jets crashed into the Twin Towers. The jet fuel ignited a whole host of materials in the building, including office furniture, carpet, paper, plastic, cloth, and many many others, and the temperature was obviously high enough to melt metal.

At least the article quotes on person who seems to have his full mental facilities:

Christopher Pyle, professor of constitutional law at Mt Holyoake College in Massachusetts, has dismissed the academic group.

He said: “To plant bombs in three buildings with enough bomb materials and wiring? It’s too huge a project and would require far too many people to keep it a secret afterwards.

“After every major crisis, like the assassinations of JFK or Martin Luther King, we’ve had conspiracy theorists who come up with plausible scenarios for gullible people. It’s a waste of time.”

Unfortunately, with the prominence of the Internet, these types of morons can easily find an audience for their conspiracy theories and keep them alive for a long time. Then, in an effort to boost readership, the media highlights these clowns and makes them seem more credible than they really are.

The really scary part is to remember that these people not only vote, but they breed.

Raccoons have killed about 10 cats in a three-block area near the Garfield Nature Trail at Harrison Avenue West and Foote Street Southwest.

Problem wildlife coordinator Sean Carrell of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife called the situation “bizarre, weird.”

“I’ve never heard a report of 10 cats being killed. It’s something we’re going to have to monitor,” he said. He added that they may have to bring in trappers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The problem got so bad that residents Kari Hall and Tamara Keeton even started a Raccoon Watch after having an emotional neighborhood meeting attended by about 40 people.

It gets even stranger:

One thing that makes these raccoons scary is they have no fear. One neighbor threw firecrackers at them to try to scare them off, and it didn’t even bug them, Hall said.

“It’s a new breed,” Keeton said. “They’re urban raccoons, and they’re not afraid.”

“There’s one really big bad dude,” she added.

“He was the biggest raccoon I’ve ever seen. He was a monster,” added Tony Benjamins, whose family has had two cats killed.

No doubt the liberals in Washington State are asking things like, “Why do the raccoons hate us?” When I first read this, my first thought was that the people in the area had been feeding the raccoons for a long time, so now the raccoons are not afraid of the people and have become bolder. Sure enough:

The neighbors hired trapper Tom Brown, a nuisance wildlife control operator from Rochester.

Brown said of the raccoons, “They are in command up there.”

He said he’s seen packs this big, but none so into killing. There was one in Rochester that killed a peacock last winter and another in Grand Mound that killed three chickens. But nothing like this.

Brown said there is an overabundance of food in the area with many fruit trees.

“And the good folks feed them. They’re cute as a bug’s ear,” he said, adding, “I wouldn’t mind being a raccoon up there.”

I wonder how cute they are when they’re walking away with your kitty cat in their little paws?

Turns out that the animals are rather smart:

Brown said he hasn’t trapped more because raccoons are intelligent. They teach their young, the same as beavers do. He said one big male boar is the main killer, and he’s tasted blood, and he wants more. He’s usually helped by one or two others.

“The boar’s likely been in a live trap before,” Brown said.

Carrell added: “It’s highly unlikely you will ever trap him again, and he’ll teach the others to stay away.”

Maybe they can be transplanted to the local PETA chapter’s president’s home for protection.

A couple of seconds later, I see another nurse run to the back and then return with another fire extinguisher. This doesn’t look good. After another ten seconds, a couple of nurses come in and start removing patients from their machines and evacuating them outside the building. Definitely not good. Finally, a nurse comes up to me and says that my truck is on fire. My truck. On fire. Just great.

Turns out that various nurses used 6 fire extinguishers to attempt to put out the fire, to no avail. Finally the San Antonio Fire Department showed up and put the fire out quickly. When I finally got a look at what was left of my truck (a 2000 Ford Ranger Super-Cab), there was a hole burned through the hood so big that I could see right into the cab of the truck. The fireman said it looked like an electrical fire because the hole in the hood was directly above the battery.

Here’s the humorous part: I called my insurance company and gave them the grim details, and while she’s gathering vehicle information, she asks, “What color is the truck?”

WASHINGTON (CNN) — It wasn’t the price of gasoline, Darfur or the rebuilding effort in New Orleans that preoccupied the White House press corps Thursday aboard a flight on Air Force One.

It was what channel they could watch on the White House televisions, Fox or CNN.

During a briefing led by White House spokesman Scott McClellan as President Bush was traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana, the Washington Post’s Jim VandeHei asked why the White House televisions always seemed to be tuned to Fox News and if it was possible to have them tuned instead to CNN.

“It’s come to my attention that there’s been requests — this is a serious question — to turn these TVs onto a station other than Fox, and that those have been denied,” VandeHei told McClellan, who is soon to be replaced by former Fox anchor and self-described conservative Tony Snow.

“My question would be, is there a White House policy that all government TVs have to be tuned to Fox?” VandeHei asked.

In what has to be one of the pettiest complaints from the pettiest group of people in the country, a White House reporter is upset because the TV is tuned to Fox News on Air Force One. Even the guy who made the complaint knows this; why else would he preface his complaint with “this is a serious question”?

This whole episode reminds me of the Borg from Star Trek. Whenever one of the Borg were prevented from communicating with the rest of the Borg Collective, it would freak out and not know what to do. In this case, the reporter was cut off from his daily diet of liberal talking points from the Liberal Collective (CNN), and all he can do is squawk about it.

Maybe Tony Snow should reconsider his decision to deal with these people on a daily basis.

However, you’ll never, ever be able to explain to me why a teenage boy would sleep with this teacher:

According to The Smoking Gun this woman had sex with a 13 year old boy 28 times during the last week of March 2006.

Forget about how morally wrong it is for a teacher to take sexual advantage of a student, doesn’t this boy have any taste at all?

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The American Civil Liberties Union claimed Wednesday that California’s lethal injection method violates the First Amendment rights of execution witnesses by not allowing them to see if the inmate is experiencing pain before death.

The federal lawsuit says the only reason San Quentin State Prison officials inject a paralyzing agent is to sanitize the execution and prevent witnesses from perhaps seeing convulsions.

The paralyzing drug, according to the lawsuit, “makes it impossible for witnesses to determine whether death row inmates in California are being subjected to substantial and unnecessary pain before dying.”

The induced paralysis, the group argued, conceals significant information to which the public is entitled.

The ACLU, which filed the suit on behalf of San Francisco-based Pacific News Service, made a similar argument a year ago before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a condemned inmate. The court rejected it on procedural grounds, and did not reach the merits of the challenge.

As far as I can tell from my reading of the First Amendment to the Constitution, there exists no “right” for the witnesses of an execution carried out by a State to see the condemned convulse during the procedure. In fact, here is the entire text of the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Not a single word about executions or witnesses or convulsions. How exactly is the ACLU going to twist and pervert this simple, elegant paragraph into something totally unintended by the authors?

The State of California is going to fight the lawsuit:

In response to Wednesday’s filing, Nathan Barankin, spokesman for Attorney General Bill Lockyer, said: “The ACLU does not have a right to determine what method the state of California should use in carrying out the death penalty.” He said the “paralyzing agent effectively stops inmate breathing.”

Under California’s protocol, a sedative, then the paralyzing agent and finally heart-stopping drugs are injected. The state is seeking court permission to drip the sedative continually to ensure unconsciousness.

If the ACLU put one eighth of the effort it puts into protecting the rights of murderers and rapists into protecting the rights of the victim, it could be a worthy organization. As it is, it isn’t anything more than a group dedicated to the perversion of the American legal system.

If you read their press release, it looks like they think that if enough people show up at this rally, President Bush and his administration are just going to give and leave the White House, allowing the ICC to prosecute them for “war crimes.”

Inviting everyone to the White House for a protest rally to show that we do not accept the criminal government, illegal wars and the permanent occupation planned for Iraq and Afghanistan. For Nat Turner, For Martin and Coretta, For all the Torture and Assassination in Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti and many others – We will not allow the Slave Holders that Still Prevail in this Country to Rule us any longer. Imprisonment and torture based on race, religion, resources or region is no different than the slavery we sought to abolish years ago. The Administration is Criminal and if they will not step down, we must storm in, show them how many of us do not accept a criminal government. How can we stand by and watch them kill our brothers, sisters, journalists and friends for their dollars?

If you look at their plan, they are advocating replacing America’s representative democracy with anarchy. They want to storm into the White House, arrest the President and his Administration, and then put them on trial for alleged war crimes and such. Oh yeah, look who they want to replace the Bush Administration with:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Going maybe where no other actor has gone before, “Star Trek” star William Shatner has sold a piece of his body for charity.

Shatner, famed for playing Captain James T. Kirk, commander of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise in the original “Star Trek” TV series, sold his kidney stone to online casino GoldenPalace.Com for $25,000. The money will be donated by Shatner to Habitat for Humanity to build houses for the poor.

But Shatner said it wasn’t easy parting with a kidney stone, even if it had already left his body. He also said he would never sell unless he had visitation rights.

“When I was contacted about selling my kidney stone to GoldenPalace.Com for an original price of $15,000 I turned it down, knowing that my tunics from Star Trek have commanded more than $100,000,” Shatner said, adding that he countered by offering to sell the ring-sized stone for $25,000.
