About

Hello, my name is Nick, and I’ll be your guide. I am a conservative who lives in San Antonio, Texas. I have created this weblog to express my opinions about current affairs and other topics which catch my interest. Usually, these topics include politics, immigration policy, the court system, and humor. The policies concerning Comments and Trackbacks can be found on the Terms page.

It is not my intention to be fair or balanced. I am expressing my opinion, and therefore a point of view. I welcome the expression of contrary points of view, via the comments. Please remember you are my guest. Act accordingly.

I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in 1978 when the eye doctor found cataracts in both of my eyes. I have since undergone a series of 6 eye operations, the most recent of which implanted artificial lenses into my eyes so I could see without glasses. In March of 2004, as a result of my diabetes, both of my kidneys failed, so now I go to dialysis three days a week and spend 4 hours each session hooked to an artificial kidney machine. The idea for the name of this web log came to me while I was drifting off into a light sleep during one of these sessions.

Most recently, in October of 2008, I had my left foot and ankle amputated due to a massive MRSA infection. I had slipped on an ice cube in the kitchen and broke my left ankle, fibula, and tibia. After the surgeon had fixed me up with several pins and rods, I went back for a follow up only to find that the infection had infiltrated most of the bone in my foot and ankle, and all of the tissue in my foot. Although the surgeons were willing to attempt to save the foot, after much discussion and contemplation with my family I decided that an immediate amputation would be the healthiest resolution which would allow me to get back to work as soon as possible. Thus, I now walk with a slight limp.

I am currently married to the greatest wife in the world, Rene, and have two children from a previous marriage.

01/18/2008 UPDATE: The local paper has published an article concerning blogs and politics which has an interview with me. You can see it here.
