Jeremiah Wright: Racist, Stupid, or Both?
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009In case you missed it, Obama’s one-time spiritual mentor Rev. Jeremiah Wright had this to say regarding the current health care reform debate:
I think the racists in the right wing are upset because poor people are about to be helped.
Those of you who are accustomed to debating with far-left radicals will recognize this tactic — accuse the opposition of something horrible, without foundation, while making your side out to be God-like and angelic. Let’s examine Wright’s comment a little deeper and see what we can find out about Wright himself.
To begin with, Wright demonstrates with laser-like precision that not all racists are white Republicans. If nothing else, his statement shows that even self-important, liberal community organizers can slip up and show their true colors.
Next, notice how Wright makes a charge of racism against Conservatives without foundation and while being asked about something which has nothing to do with race. This is what liberals do when they don’t have a talking point to spit out; they make stuff up. It makes them look like the victim, and it isn’t like anyone in the Main Stream Media is going to call them on it.
Finally, statements like this are Wright’s bread and butter; it’s how he makes his living. You see, as long as he can convince the black community that white conservatives are evil racists who hate them, he can continue to live in luxury on the money he siphons from his “ministry” as he travels around the world to spread the word. He has a vested interest in keeping racism, real or imagined, in the headlines.
As I’ve said before, unfortunately for victims of real racism, all people like Wright do is undermine their credibility and make it harder for them to get justice.
So, is Wright a racist, or just stupid? As you suspected, the answer is both.

All the preaching I’ve heard from the pulpit throughout my life has mainly concentrated on the fact that we 1] shouldn’t sin anymore; 2] should follow the 10 commandments; 3] should be loving, patriot, generous, tolerant and loyal and 4] act Godly.
I never, ever heard racism hatred being shouted at me; for any race, religion or ethnic background. It’s amazing to think that WHITE people sat in that church and didn’t react? You see in the photos that there’s some white people there, didn’t they feel this was directed pretty much at them? Or, did they feel that by being “part of the congregation”, they were one with them and not part of the racist masses?
I didn’t vote for Obama, but my distrust of his beliefs has nothing to do with his being biracial. And, for every drop of black blood he has, he also has a matching drop of white blood. I thought that maybe it might be a good thing to have a black president, finally, so we could put all this behind us. After all, if America is racist, how could we vote in a biracial half-black man? But my better half said it won’t matter to those who carry this man’s water, no matter what happens or who criticizes him, they’ll be accused of being racist….. and he seems (alas) to be right again. I sometimes hate it when he’s always right!
All this acrimony in the country and O’s administration is only eight months old! And they said Bush divided the country! Is it going to take another attack for us to realize we’re in danger, there’s a war on, and WE are not the enemy?
We have open borders, have had open borders for decades; there’s no telling how many plans are afoot to do damage to us. And all the House can do is dither on about racism and spend half an afternoon fussing at somebody who called O’s words a lie, and then work to eliminate those exact words, so the words weren’t a mistake! Joe Wilson spoke the truth, but was rude (and ungracious, yes), and the House censures him. We have trillions in debt, a nation in smithereens and the House is working hard to censure somebody. They should police themselves and their disgraceful and filthy earmarks.
We have .5 million people show up complaining about taxes, earmarks, bad Congress acts, bad bills, and bad plans…. and we’re all accused of being racists.
The world is turning upside down again, but that’s OK, it’s just us being racists. What a mess, sad, pathetic mess. Our country going down the tubes. Not an easy thing to observe
I love my country, and am proud of the many wonderful things we’ve done. We almost single-handedly put the rest of the world back on its feet after World War II. And yet, we can’t have a portion of our population put aside that over a hundred years ago, human beings were wrongly sold and used as slaves? Cannot the casualties of the Civil War count as blood payment for this injustice? Cannot the good things done by so many of us help this part of our population know that the majority of us only want them to do as well as possible, raise their families in safety to have educations and do well? I love to see people of all races and religions succeed and do well.
The rest of the world sold human beings, too, and it was stopped. When forces gather together, we can stop bad things and make it better. Those who cannot make peace with their past are never going to have their future because they don’t allow themselves to look ahead; they’re living in the past.
Too long, but I needed to say it! Thanks.

No problem; you said it well.
I happen to believe that most Democrats don’t think that the opposition to health care reform is based on racism. However, it seems that a great many of the President’s supporters are willing to let the racism charges stand unopposed in the media, because they think the charges will help them get what they want. Also, by saying nothing, they can later claim that they didn’t agree with the charges and have it both ways. Its called politics, and sometimes it sucks.
Whatever successes against racism this country achieves, there will always be a segment of the population who will see every challenge to a black person as racism. Most of these people will themselves be black, but not all. Some will be guilt-ridden white southern democrats who feel that by shouting racism in such cases it endears them to the blacks. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. The only thing I know for sure is that such actions only serve to cheapen all claims of racism, true and false, which in turn makes it harder for victims of true racism to get any justice.
