Obama: An International Embarrassment

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Well, the whole world is in a tizzy about the Obamas’ gift of an iPod for the Queen of England. Compared to his last attempt to get a gift for the British Prime Minister (a set of DVDs in the wrong format for British DVD players), this is obviously a step in the right direction. However, Barry loses points for loading the iPod with recordings of his own speeches.

President and First Lady Obama gave Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II a video iPod with inscription, songs uploaded and accessories, plus a rare musical songbook signed by Richard Rodgers.

Uploaded onto the iPod:

  • Photos from the Queen’s 2007 White House State Visit
  • Photos from the Queen’s 2007 Jamestown, Va., Visit
  • Photos from the Queen’s 2007 Richmond, Va., Visit
  • Video from the Queen’s 1957 Jamestown Visit
  • Video from the Queen’s 2007 Jamestown Visit
  • Video from the Queen’s 2007 Richmond Visit
  • Photos from President Obama’s Inauguration
  • Audio of then-state senator Obama’s speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and
  • Audio of President Obama 2009 Inauguration Address

Britain’s Press Association reports that the Royal couple gave the Obamas “a silver-framed, signed photograph of themselves.”

Isn’t this the equivalent of handing the Queen a framed picture of himself? Tacky at best. He would have hit a home run if he had left his speeches off of the iPod and left everything else.

His head is up his ass

Embarrassment? The Queen loved the gift! She had requested it even!
And as for the framed portrait of herself that she gave the Obamas, that is the tradtional gift that she gives to every visiting dignitary.
And as for the DVD movie collection he gave to Gordon Brown, I thought that was a terrific gift! I’d love to have a gift like that! And as far as the reports that they were in the wrong format for British players, I’m sure that was easily rectified. He probably got the right format shipped to him the very next day.

Obama is a dolt, I mean really, what an imbecile. He receives thoughtful gifts with a history, and gives out trash. Hell, I’ve gotten the exact same gift at a company sales meeting for winning the scavenger hunt!
Even producer/director David Zucker (Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane, An American Carol) had Ricardo Montelban present the Queen with a Revolutionary War era musket in Naked Gun. That is a thoughtful gift, not a piece of trash electronic trinket made mostly in China.

  3.   Mike Thomas Says:

Trash!?! A superb collection of the best American cinema has to offer compiled by the American Film Istitute is “trash”?
    Why do conservatives hate America?
And what was the wonderful gift that Obama got in return? A 7-volume biography of Winston Churchill. 7 volumes!!! Can you say “snoozefest”?
And as for the video iPod, it’s what the queen requested!!! What’s so awful about that? They called and said “What would the queen like?” And they said “She wants a video iPod. Her old one is five years old and doesn’t have video.” So he gave her what she wanted. And for this he gets called a “dolt” and an “imbecile”.
Well, at least unlike Bush, I bet that he will actually read the entire 7-volume history of Winston Churchill.

“I bet that he will actually read the entire 7-volume history of Winston Churchill.”….

Not so fast! This 7-volume history of Winston Churchill is of the same man whose bust had been in the White House, for 7 years, as a gift to G. Bush, right? The bust that Obama had returned to the British Embassy during his first week, right?

Maybe this is the British equivalent of ‘stick it in your face’?

I hope Obama DOES read the entire 7-volume history of the man who saved England from speaking German. Maybe he will learn something about being positive about your own country and not trash-talking it when you’re overseas!

  5.   Mike Thomas Says:

Every president can decorate the Oval Office however they want. The fact that George W. Bush chose to prominently display a bust of Winston Churchill was his prerogative. Obama has chosen to display a bust of Abraham Lincoln. That does not mean he is insulting Churchill or disrespecting Great Britain any more than Bush was insulting Lincoln by not having his bust in the Oval Office. Or how about Ronald Reagan? Was he insulting Churchill by not having his bust in the Oval Office during his presidency?
This is really a silly issue and just another example of how low Fox News and the rightwing media establishment will dip to try and drag down President Obama.
Oh, and as for Obama supposedly “trash-talking” his country while overseas that is absolute nonsense. You’ve clearly been watching too much of that phony Fox News and listening to too much of that lying idiot Sean Hannity. Obama did NOT trash-talk his country in anyway. Everything he said was very much true, very much reasonable and not insulting to anyone.

I am not surprised at many Americans overlooking this president’s mishaps, and the media intention to downplay his behavior. You don’t have to be educated to know that bowing to the Saudi king was an insult as well as the return of the bust of Churchill. After all, they insisted he keep it! Out of respect, he should have kept it and put it in a closet if he wished, but is there a need to insult! This man could step in a pile of shit and throw it at the first lady and the American people would make an excuse for him. I love the example he displays as being a father and husband and I hope it encourages all people and relationships, however, calling himself a christian seems to be a joke. I am appalled at his comment that American is not a nation of christians…this country was founded by our forefathers and their belief in God. If you have ever visited Washington you would see God in all of our original documents that governed this country!
