Kinda nails it right up directly to the eyebrows, doesn’t it?

I find it rather disturbing that this level of crude paranoia is finding such a large audience today. What is wrong with people? Seriously.
I mean, when liberals criticized President Bush, they were at least criticizing him for things that he had actually done – Waterboarding, secret detentions, expanded wiretapping without judicial oversight, etc.
But when these nutjobs like Glenn Beck attack Obama, it is over things that he has NOT DONE. No one is taking away people’s guns. No one is rounding up conservatives and throwing them in concentration camps. Raising the top tax rate by 5 percent is NOT socialism. This is just insanity! Glenn Beck is seriously nuts, and the fact that impressionable young people like this guy – http://saconservative.wordpress.com/2009/03/12/we-surround-them-on-friday/ – are starting to idolize him is very disheartening.

    Mike:

Raising the tax rate by 5% is not socialism. However, government redistribution of that 5% to other people who have done nothing to earn it IS socialism.

As for liberal criticism of Bush, please tell me what he did to deserve the constant Hitler comparisons. When it comes to plain, unadulterated unhinged criticism of people, nobody is worse than the liberals. Period.

As for the rest of it, the liberals were constantly saying that the Bush Administration was going to go around and arrest all of the people who were complaining about him, saying that Bush wouldn’t tolerate dissenting opinions. Were you ever harassed by the Bush Admin? Of course not; but that didn’t stop the liberals (especially in Hollywood) from making this accusation repeatedly for the previous 8 years.

I find all of this disturbing.

Hey! I just had a chance to read today’s paper and saw your guest comment on the Op-Ed page. Congratulations!!!!!

  5.   Nick Marinelli Says:

Thanks. It took a long time to find something local to write about.

  6.   Andres Bocanegra Says:

Im glad to see that Mike thinks I idolize Glenn Beck. Glenn Beck does say things from time to time that I don’t agree with … same with Rush, Sean, etc. But the 9 principles and 12 values are common sense to me especially number six “I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.” Liberals seem to think we all should have the same results in life … that no one should be less off than anyone else. That’s ridiculous. Obama has talked about socialist ideas and plans he would like to see in this country. To be honest I would think you Mike read my blog often enough to know I am an independent conservative thinker. If a liberal democrat has a good idea that I think would be overall beneficial to the country and our people I would support it whole heartedly. Your comments about me idolizing Glenn Beck are wrong. I like Glenn, watch his program regularly and agree with a lot of what he says … I don’t wear t-shirts with his likeness and have commemorative plates and coins of him like some have of Obama.

  7.   Nick Says:

Andres, can I have the link to your blog? Sounds like good reading.

  8.   Andres Bocanegra Says:

saconservative.wordpress.com … feel free to read it I try to keep it interesting and talk about pretty much anything … obviously mostly politics.

  9.   Mike Thomas Says:

You are right, Andres. I went overboard saying that you idolize Beck and for that I apologize. But I stand by my criticism of Beck and his “principles”. He reminds me of some of those loopy anti-government militia folks who sprouting up all over the Texas Hill Country in the late 1990s. But their popularity kind of waned after that rightwinger Timothy McVeigh blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building.

  10.   Mike Thomas Says:

Nick, I think people who compared Bush to Hitler were behaving despicably and I will not defend them. But I would challenge you to name even one person who ever made that comparison. I don’t think you can because the people that did that were not prominent media personalities with national Radio shows and TV specials. They were anonymous commenters and bloggers whose rantings were usually picked up and touted by conservatives and used to bash liberals as a whole.
There were many good reasons to be critical of Bush and I do believe he was one of the worst presidents this nation has ever seen, but that does not mean that he was a bad person who should be lumped with the likes of Hitler.
By the way, how many comparisons of Obama to Castro have I seen in recent weeks?

  11.   Nick Marinelli Says:

Here’s one of the many: Click here.

I have seen many comparisons of Obama’s policies to Castro’s policies, but no personal ones.
