Obama’s Idea Of Being Frank

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

President Obama continued his use of smoke and mirrors today by declaring that he will cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term.

President Barack Obama has vowed to cut the country’s budget deficit in half by the end of his first term. Obama laid out the guiding principle of his budget policy at a White House conference. He said he believes the time has come for “a frank conversation” about the problem and said the deficit, projected to total $1.3 trillion this year, must be brought under control.

You want framk? OK, let’s be frank. Why aren’t you telling the public that this $1.3 trillion dollar figure you keep asserting as the total deficit does not include the almost $2 trillion dollars spent in the so-called “stimulus” bill, bank and automakers bailout, and mortgage bailouts? There is absolutely no way you are going to erase over $1.5 trillion from the deficit in four years, especially if what we’ve you spent in the your first month as president is any indication of future spending by your administration.

The summit came one week after the president signed into law the gargantuan stimulus measure designed to stop the country’s economic free fall and, ultimately, reverse the recession now months into its second year. The new law is certain to add to this fiscal year’s deficit, which the administration projects will be $1.5 trillion. [emphasis mine]

Of course it is going to add to this year’s fiscal deficit. The question is why won’t Obama use the figure which includes the new spending when talking about deficit reduction? Simple: Smoke and mirrors. He says what he thinks you want to hear, all the while either dismissing or ignoring the facts which do not agree with his agenda. An agenda which does not include deficit reduction or our country’s fiscal health. I predict that by the end of Obama’s first term, the deficit will remain where it is now or be worse, while federal spending will continue to skyrocket out of control.

Smoke and mirrors, people. Smoke and mirrors.

His head is up his ass
