The Monopod Has Landed

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Well, I finally made it home and into the house without breaking something. In case you lost track, since September I have:

  • broken my left ankle;
  • sustained a massive infection in said left ankle;
  • had left leg amputated below the knee;
  • fractured my right knee;
  • had to have a new dialysis access created in my left arm;
  • broke the femur bone in my right leg.

Its been a long, strange trip but things are finally starting to look up. I went back to work yesterday, and it really felt good to be doing something “normal.” Physical therapy is ongoing, but for the most part rehab is over with.

My plan is to be walking again before March 1, but that will depend on how the bones in the right leg heal. Once I am able to put weight on the right leg, I’ll be able to get my prosthesis fitted and begin learning to walk on it. Eventually, I’ll be able to drive myself to work.

    Such good news to hear you’re home and working to be mobile again. You’ve certainly had a helluva beginning of a new year! Don’t do it again, please!

    Good luck and God Speed on your recovery.

    Great to have you back, Nick!
    We’ve been seriously lacking good conservative commentary here in the local blogging community.
    Best of luck with your recovery.
