I’m Back in the Saddle Again
Wednesday, March 26th, 2008As regular readers know, one of the many maladies I suffer from is called gastroparesis. This nasty condition tends to affect long-time diabetics like myself, and can be a real problem to deal with. In a nutshell, this condition inhibits your digestive track’s ability to move the food you eat through your system. So, the food you’ve consumed simply sits in your stomach, and your stomach keeps making more and more stomach acid, and sooner or later the system gets backed up and you start vomiting. Vomit, vomit, vomit. Hours on end with no relief in site.
I had a bout of gastroparesis starting last Thursday at work. I made it through to the end of the day, and then got in my car to drive home. About three-quarters of the way home, I pulled over into a parking lot of a fast food restaurant (I figured nobody would notice) and vomited for about fifteen minutes. I then finished my ride home, whereupon I vomited again, only this time I was unable to stop. Well. my wife’s no dummy; she had EMS at our door in less than 10 minutes and I was soon on my way to the ICU at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital.
So, once again the forces of good triumphed and I was brought home by my wife on Monday well enough to go back to work Tuesday. My voice is gone (dry-heaving for hours takes a toll on your vocal cords) and I sound like a 13-year old boy whose voice is changing, but other than that I am doing quite well.
By the way, these things called wives; if you don’t have one you should really check it out. If you are a woman you’ll want to check out husbands. They are very handy in these types of situations and can be worth their weight in gold.

Kudos to your wife. They are indeed invaluable.
I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better now.

Mike,
Thank you for your comment, I am Nick’s wife. I have enjoyed reading your responses to Nick’s blog. I am a conservative like Nick, but sometimes I think that Nick needs to have someone, who is not a moonbat, give him a good health debate on his various positions.
I look forward to reading more from you.

What a nice compliment, Rene. I believe I speak for not only myself, but for all of us pot-addled moonbats when I say that we are grateful to Mike also, from the tops of our flower-bedecked heads to the soles of our Birkenstocks.

Ann, I would tell you and Mike how much your commenting is appreciated, but as a typical conservative, my heart has been on-loan to someone else for sometime now, as I have no use for it.

Thanks, Rene. My wife is actually much more conservative than I am and she tends to keep me grounded whenever I’m about to go off on a tangent.
As I’ve said before, I’m not necessarily trying to change minds here. I respect Nick’s opinions even when I think he has it wrong. I just enjoy the challenge of political debate and I think it makes both sides’ arguments sharper when they have to defend their positions.

Nick, I am glad that you are better now. I wish that there was a way to keep that kind of thing away from you.
Yes, I can also personally attest that wives can be particularly invaluable during those times when you cannot get along on your own.
