Transplant Update

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

Well, I received news recently that my sister, who had graciously and kindly offered to have herself tested to see if she could be a kidney donor for me, did not pass the rigorous testing of the transplant hospital. Her husband had also volunteered for the testing, but he was eliminated from donation as well. There really isn’t anything I can say which would adequately convey the gratitude I have for these people. They are certainly people of character and grace, and I only hope that someday I will be able to do something which will adequately thank them for their actions.

So, for me it is back to the waiting game. As I have mentioned before, it is surrealistic to be put into the position of having to have a total stranger die in order for me to continue to live. Sometimes, it just really upsets me to think about it, so I try hard not to think about it at all. However, one thing dialysis does is give you time to think while you’re sitting in the chair having your blood siphoned out of you. So, I imagine that I’ll have quite a lot to deal with in the coming months.
