More Pain — But No Gain

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

When my wife’s kidneys were deemed unacceptable for donation, one of first things we did was schedule her an appointment with my Nephrologist, Dr. Carl Dukes. After a lengthy visit, it was determined that a biopsy needed to be performed to diagnose the problem with her kidneys. So, last Monday, she went to the hospital and had the kidney biopsy performed. Results should be back by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

The procedure was supposed to be relatively painless, however they ran into some difficulty getting the needle into the bottom of her kidney, so they ended up poking her three times. This has resulted in a lot of pain for her, something I would regret immensely if it weren’t for the fact that we need to know whats wrong.

It seems like she has gone through a lot of pain in her desire to donate a kidney to me, and even more pain now that it’s been determined that she can’t donate. It’s hard to express my admiration, appreciation, and genuine love for her deeds and desires in this matter, because there isn’t an adjective extant that describes it accurately.

Still no word from the other possible kidney donor, but the last time I heard, everything was going well. I hope to hear from this person soon.
