Did you ever wonder what life would be like if the current bunch of Democrats were to regain power and exert their will upon the country? How would America change under the leadership of a John Kerry, a Hillary Clinton, or a Howard Dean? Well, if you’d like a preview, you need look no farther than San Francisco, California:
Everyone knows that San Francisco is a focal point for anti-war sentiment. Protests, civil disobedience and other acts designed to show opposition to the war in Iraq are standard fare in these parts. But now it seems that San Francisco anti-war activists have taken their opposition to the war in Iraq a step further.
Not content with simply protesting the war, they’ve trained their sights on all things military. In an apparent effort to rid the city of any semblance of its military history, various leftist groups, and even some city officials, are trying to erase the military’s presence altogether. In short, San Francisco has declared itself a military-free zone.
Following on the heels of their success in sometimes violently shutting down job fairs that include military recruiters on college campuses, the counter recruitment movement is now looking to broaden its influence. Instead of merely protesting the existence of military recruiters on campuses, the movement wants to ban them altogether. Proposition I, a measure that will be on the ballot this November, seeks to do just that.
It seems that if a significant number of anti-war Democrats were to regain their power in the Congress, or the White House, that the U.S. Military would be in danger of extinction. These people don’t just want the U.S. Military out of the Middle East; they want the U.S. Military gutted and left to whither on the vine.
Recently, the City of San Francisco was set to receive the USS Iowa to display in their port as a floating museum. The anti-war activists, however, decided that they didn’t want it and got their way. In an ironic twist of fate, Dianne Feinstein was the voice of moderation:
Senator Dianne Feinstein, the former mayor of San Francisco and a voice of moderation when it comes to her hometown, was not at all happy about the decision.
Feinstein told The Chronicle: “This isn’t the San Francisco that I’ve known and loved and grew up in and was born in. I thought that in view of what’s going on and in view of the loss of lives of our men and women, it was a very petty decision.” Her comments demonstrate that showing respect for the military needn’t involve partisanship.
But it seems that many among the supervisors’ liberal constituency supported the decision, labeling the USS Iowa nothing more than a “celebration of war.” Such attitudes are an insult to the blood, sweat and tears of those generations that fought to retain the freedoms we all enjoy today.
In short, a nation under the leadership of a John Kerry, Hillary Clinton or Howard Dean would find itself incapable of defending itself and subject to the whims of other governments. All of the freedoms, rights, and privileges that American citizens now enjoy would slowly erode as the Democrat leadership bowed to the wills and opinions of other countries. American industry would be destroyed as treaty after treaty regulating the environment would force most businesses to close down. Unemployment would skyrocket, overloading an already over- burdened welfare system and forcing the majority of citizens to live in poverty.
Does this sound way to dismal? Surely, you say, even Democrats understand the need for a strong military and robust economy? I wouldn’t bet my life on it. As an example, Democrats have complained long and loud about the President’s refusal to enter into the Kyoto Accords. Essentially, these accords would punish America by limiting the amounts of industrial pollutants we can produce each year, while allowing other countries, most notably China, to pollute at will. The resultant costs to American industry to upgrade equipment and facilities would render competition impossible and kill sales of American products. The Democrats know this, and still they want the U.S. to submit to the Kyoto Accords.
Now, you need to keep reminding yourself that not all Democrats are this stupid. It’s just that at this moment in history, the fringe elements of the left are in control of the Democrat Party. Hopefully, the more intelligent elements of the Party will regain power soon and again allow our democracy to be a two-party system. However, until that happens, the scenario I described above remain a distinct possibility.
