More About Nick

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Nick came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon as anticipated. He had been eating and tolerating his food in the hospital, so the doctors felt that he was well enough to be discharged. So, I brought him home yesterday to his favorite chair and his favorite cat.

At 3:00am this morning, Nick wasn’t feeling well, but he got up and started getting ready to go to the dialysis clinic. Within a few minutes Nick went from not feeling well to being violently ill. I called 911 and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Right now Nick is in the Intensive Care Unit.

It appears as though it is Diabetic Gastroparalysis again. This is the same thing that put him in the hospital on September 26th. This also isn’t the first time that I have brought Nick home from the hospital only to have him re-admitted within 24 hours (once I brought him home only to take him back four hours later).

We are at a scary stage with Nick’s disease process. The doctors have told us both to anticipate Nick being hospitalized more and more until he can get his transplants (kidney and pancreas). It is so hard to watch someone you love with all your hart go through all of this. It is very painful and frustrating because the only thing that we can do is wait……wait for that one phone call from the transplant hospital to let us know that they have found a match for Nick. That day will be filled with joy and sorrow, knowing that Nick will have a second chance at life while another innocent soul has lost theirs.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Rene
