ACLU Protects The Rights Of Terrorists

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

It takes a lot of gall for an organization called the American Civil Liberties Union to protect the rights of people who have sworn to kill as many innocent Americans as they can. Apparently, the ACLU has gall to spare:

The Pentagon permitted lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union to sit in on interrogations of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay and, in some cases, advise the terrorists of their rights, reports Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

That’s the word from U.S. military sources, some of whom are astonished the ACLU was permitted to interfere in the interrogations of hardened al-Qaida and Taliban enemy combatants, according to the premium online, intelligence newsletter published by WND’s founder.

According to these sources, the ACLU lawyers advised the majority of the prisoners that they did not have to answer questions from military interrogators.

“It’s as if they were shoplifters in the U.S.,” said one source. “The lawyers may have left by now, but the damage is done. We’re sending guys down to interrogate on taxpayer’s dime for absolutely no reason now.”

The ACLU, like all unions, was probably a good idea at the time it was founded. There were probably a couple of issues that really needed to be resolved concerning some people’s civil rights, and so they came together and resolved those issues. However, just as with the labor unions, once those issues were resolved, they had to either find a reason to continue to exist or dissolve. Of course, once something like this is created, there is practically no chance that it is going to dissolve, so they continued to look for reasons to justify their existence, all the while raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. So the ACLU, just like the labor unions, now exist only to raise funds so that they can pursue whatever political agenda the current leadership has. Unfortunately for the majority of Americans, this political agenda is the “Blame America First” so favored by the left.

So in a time where the lives of innocent Americans hang in the balance, whose side did the ACLU join? Did they join the side of the construction worker, who may be killed by a improvised explosive device while walking to work? Did they join the side of the mother and infant who may die on the bus because of a homicide bomber? Of course not. They joined the side of the terrorist who built the improvised explosive device and the homicide bomber. In short, they don’t give a damn about you or your loved ones; all they care about is whether or not the terrorists have been subjected to racial profiling or interrogated too harshly.

The people who run this organization and who do the work as described in this article are, quite simply, poor excuses for American citizens. They enjoy the freedom given to them by those who serve in the military, but when it comes down to doing their part in protecting that freedom, they abandon ship. They live in a world of legal technicalities and academic exercises which permit them to think that they are contributing to society. In fact, all they are doing is hastening the destruction of the country which provides them the freedom and liberty to do what they are doing.

A lot of gall indeed. Thanks for posting this.

    Oops. Retry.

I used to think, circa Skokie, that the ACLU was a decent organization if sometimes picking too many nits. That slowly changed. And I am not alone - last the DA on Law and Order. said that he had been a member since college but was considering dropping his membership. OK, Hollywood script - but if tha ACLU can lose Hollywood, is anyone left?

Also, VOLOKH blog is posting interesting stuff - like the founder of the ACLU apparently admired (!) Stalin’s use of force to suppress dissent. Some excerpts at Clayton’s place if you don’t want through the whole thing -
