Barbra Streisand: Bosnia Same As Iraq

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Babs has decided to grace us with her political prowess once again. This time, she lists quotes from Republican members of Congress spoken at the time Clinton sent the U.S. Military into Bosnia. The clear implication being that the situations in Bosnia then and Iraq now are identical, and Democrats now are only stating what the Republicans stated then.

One of the big differences between Bosnia and Iraq is that we have an exit strategy in Iraq. When the new government is in place, and the Iraqi armed forces are capable of dealing with the terrorists who continue to attack civilians, then the U.S. military leaves. It will take some time to train and equip the Iraqi forces, as well as deal with the terrorist attacks, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have an exit strategy.

Another difference between Bosnia and Iraq is that in Iraq, the President is making sure that the troops have all of the equipment, supplies, and men that they ask for. There will be no “Blackhawk Down” incident in Iraq. No troops will be left to die for need of more forces on the ground in Iraq, like they did in Bosnia.

Finally, it can not go without saying that the real difference between Bosnia and Iraq is the man in the Oval Office. When the situation in Bosnia was going on, the occupant of the White House was a confessed “loather” of the military, whose only reason for going into Bosnia in the first place was to take Monica Lewinski off of the front page. President Bush, on the other hand, sent the military to Iraq as part of the Global War on Terror, and has the full and unconditional support of the troops.

Perhaps Babs better stick to gouging fans for her latest farewell tour. She’s a lot better at that.

They just keep digging their own holes.

The difference was that Clinton didn’t give any objective. Bush has an exit strategy. When the Iraqi people are comfortable that they can run their own country without our help, we will leave. An exit strategy isn’t saying “on this date we leave”.

Bush has clearly told us why they are there, why they are doing it, and what has to be met before they leave.

Clinton said they would be the 10 months at most… that was nearly 10 years ago and we are still there.

There is an exit strategy, it’s only the libs don’t want to hear it. The President has repeatly said that if the Iraqi government wants them to leave, they will… I don’t see them asking us to leave.
