More information on Nick
Monday, August 30th, 2004This is Rene again with more information on Nick. After spending most of the month of August in the hospital, Nick is desperate to be discharged. Two of his doctors are of the opinion that Nick should go home, however the other two doctors who are also following his care believe that he should stay in the hosptial for at least another week or two. Tomorrow all four doctors are going to get together to have a pow-wow about what to do with Nick. For my part, I would feel much better with Nick staying in the hosptial just a little while longer to ensure that he is ready to come home without fear of him keeling over upon returning home.
The other problem is the insurance issue. There is a very strong possibility that even if all four doctors decide that it is in his best interest to stay, Nick’s insurance could decide that it is time for him to go home. The insurance, to be known as “Company X”, could easily decide that they have spent enough on Nick for the month of August and refuse to pay any more of the hospital charges. If this happens, we would have no alternative but to take Nick home. If his doctors feel strongly enough that an insurance forced dicharge would endanger Nick, they could appeal the decision. But, we are dealing with big insurance bureaucracy…so guess who will win in the end.
It is all so frustrating. But, we have no option other than to just hang in there and see what happens. Please continue to keep Nick in your thougts and prayers.
