3rd Update on Nick
Tuesday, August 24th, 2004Hello, this is Rene again to give you an update on Nick. Nick was discharged from the hospital on Sunday afternoon, and we had to return him to the Emergency Room within two hours of being at home. The first night back in the hospital he spent in the ICU due to the fact that he had diabetic DKA. Today he is in surgery again to remove the chest catheter trough which he has been receiving his dialysis treatments. The doctors were trying to hold on to the catheter as long as possible due to the problems with the fistula in his arm. In order to remove the catheter from his chest, they have had to put a temporary catheter in so he has some way of getting dialysis until his fistula heals. The down side is that patients typically do not leave the hospital with this type of temporary catheter, so Nick will probably be in the hospital for another two to three weeks. If I can, I will try to get a laptop into him so he can begin blogging again as soon as he feels well enough to do so.
