2nd Update on Nick
Friday, August 20th, 2004Hello everyone. This is Rene again just giving you an update on Nick. He is still in the hospital and is very sick. The doctors have determined that this time around he has an entirely different type of staph infection. They are still waiting for the cultures to come back to conclusively determine the exact nature of the bug. Nick is in surgery right now as I type this. The vascular surgeons are having to open up his arm again to do some repair on the dialysis fistula. As it turns out, his fistula did not develope as it should, and they are having to do some corrective work. While the new fistula heals, they have no option but to continue to use the catheter in his chest for dialysis. The problem with this is that it may be the catheter itself that is causing these bazzare staph infections. Nick has a long road ahead of him and he can use all the well wishes and prayers that he can get. And to those of you who have already sent well wishes, I am eternally greatful.
